Hot Metal Desiliconization

Lower hot metal silicon, the user-friendly way.

Low hot metal silicon is ideal for steel making. With bigger blast furnaces and better process control, Indian primary steel makers now average around 0.5 to 0.7% silicon, and occasionally as low as 0.3%, but not on a consistent basis. As raw material quality drifts and furnaces run at safer chemistries, external user-friendly desiliconization is the practical answer. Oxygen blowing is as good as a separate steel-making step, and mill scale, iron ore or sinter fines are not very effective in metal runners. The Nellikuru Process, under patent, reduces hot metal silicon in the blast furnace main runner and in hot metal ladles.

Yield improvement

Hot Metal Insulation Compound

Protect temperature and yield from the first second.

Iron makers across the world still use ladle covering compounds that are added after the ladle is filled or after the cast is closed. By then, turbulence on the metal surface has already cost temperature, oxidation has set in, and metal jamming has started. Our Hot Metal Insulation Compound starts insulating from the moment the metal is taken into the ladle. The reagent is added at the bottom of the ladle just before tapping. The instant it meets liquid metal, an insulation layer forms over the surface, floats along with the metal, and stays intact until the metal is poured out.
